Routes offered at Future Teacher Training 

There are several options available to fund your teacher training with Future Academies. Each route offers the same high quality bespoke experience with support guaranteed throughout your training. All routes enable you to gain Qualified Teacher Status and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE).

Our training programme is designed for you to benefit from 4 days training in your placement school and one day training with expert teachers and educational leaders through our professional studies sessions and in school mentoring.

Postgraduate Fee Paying Route

The Postgraduate route is the most popular route for graduates who want to train to become a teacher. These positions offer the widest range of subject specialisms and carry the largest pool of available places for training.

Government bursaries are available for some subjects up to £30,000. Currently the subjects here are eligible for bursary funding (subject to criteria) for those training in 2024-2025.

The tuition fee for all unsalaried courses is £9,250, payable by the trainee. 

We ask for this during a set timeline of four instalments during the training year, making it easier for you to pay. There are government loans from Student Finance England, bursaries and scholarships available to cover all or part of your study.

 Postgraduate School Employment Route

Future Teacher Training offers both School Direct and the Postgraduate Teaching Apprenticeship for salaried courses when they become available in our schools. Salaried trainees receive an unqualified teacher wage and are employed with a school, whilst undertaking a larger teaching commitment from the start of the training course.

Most salaried trainees with Future Teacher Training have experience of the classroom compared to those on the Postgraduate Fee-paying route. These roles are offered on our courses page and eligible candidates will be invited to a two stage interview process to meet the school they are applying to train with.

The apprenticeship route offers trainees a salaried position with the additional Level 6 Postgraduate Teaching Apprenticeship qualification when you complete your end point assessment following the award of QTS, usually in the following academic year. 

There are no fees payable for those who secure a place on the School Employment Route and trainees are not eligible to apply for student finance, bursary or scholarships. 

Future Teach Scholarship

The Future Teach Scholarship is supported by the charity which sponsors us, Future. We encourage applications from potential trainees who can evidence an excellent academic record alongside a demonstrable record of improvement and ability to overcome adversity.  We welcome applications to this route from trainees whose backgrounds might be underrepresented in the teaching profession. 

Successful candidates receive a highly competitive scholarship during their first year of training with us and enter into a commitment for completing their ITT and ECT years at Future Academies. 

Candidates are guaranteed a placement at one of the Future Academies schools in either London or Hertfordshire. They train alongside other trainee teachers to share best practice. They gain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and the PGCE. 

Many of our scholarship alumni have gone on to support our schools in leadership roles within and across academies.

International Qualifications 

 We are keen to hear from applicants from all over the world.

If you have international qualifications you may need to provide certificates of equivalency in order to qualify as a teacher in the UK.

Assessment Only

This route is not offered with any training and is only appropriate for those currently demonstrating the Teacher's Standards over a full timetable as an unqualified teacher.  

Candidates for the Assessment Only route will need to have taught in two settings and have the support of their current school in order to undertake this 4 stage process. 

 The total fees for this route are £3000.

This is broken down into: £500 for your initial interview with a SCITT representative and £2,500 once you have secured a place on the route. 

Places are limited and there is often a waiting list, so early application is encouraged.
